The Zanzibar Improving Students Prospects (ZISP) project was initiated in September 2016 and runs up to mid-2021. The project covers both primary and secondary education, and wishes to “improve the quality of: (a) instruction; and (b) learning environment in targeted grades and targeted subjects”. The skills gaps identified in Zanzibar should be targeted by improved lower secondary-level Maths Science and English (MSE) acquisition.

In July 2018, two Course Handbooks were completed under the Teacher Conversion Program. One handbook was created for Science and one for Physics. These handbooks state clear teaching guidelines and were handed out to 1500 teachers of Maths, Science, English, from P5/P6 and F1/F2 and approximately 650 F1/2 Arts teachers, who were converted to Maths and Science in F1/2.
